Telephone-type cable is usually called 10Base-T cable - easy to remember because the T can stand for telephone. 10Base-T requires a specific type of cable known as Catagory 3 (CAT 3 for short) and is basically two pairs of twisted copper wires. Although material differences exist between CAT 3 and the regular phone cord you use in your home, more than one Ethernet network has been built successfully on telephone cable with on one the wiser.
