conception of duty

A Frenchman, Joseph Gobineau (1816-82) wrote, "Everyone wants to perfect himself through a conception of duty" and "all have an immensely sincere desire to seek what is good."

Yes we all have that sense of duty. But it Did NOT come from God. The absolutely definatively unique characteristic of what God has done and told us about in the Bible IS that although NO one Can in fact through ANY duty what-so-ever perfect himself or herself what God did can perfect an individual. Even many of those who should comprehend what the Bible IS saying insist on reverting to moral expectation and obligation to become perfect.

The Bible tells us "the just shall live by faith"!

One can not accept what Jesus did and then proceed to do something that they perceive to be able to fix them up, or to do what someone else with not only a personal conception of duty but also an authoritarian self obliging duty to fix other people says will fix them.

Although the Absolute Universal Norm IS

"Be Holy"
and is defined by the example "as I am Holy" as spoken by God.

there is ONLY ONE norm under it.

"Faith"

and not just any faith
not some 'leap into the dark'
Absolute trust that what Jesus did will perfect me.
Jesus died and if I appropriate His death as my own He will raise me back to life in conformity to the AUN.
