When God laughs

“The most important scientific revolutions all include, as their only common feature, the dethronement of human arrogance from one pedestal after another of previous convictions about our centrality in the cosmos.” -Stephen Jay Gould, paleontologist, biologist, author (1941-2002)

AE himself said “who ever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods.”

It is funny, here are people trying to deny what we could have and all want at the same time that we are all grasping what we think is it with every breath that we take like as if it will be the last while we hope that it is the first of a new beginning.

Let me go over that again.

People want – each individual people wants to be the center of the universe and spends every waking hour trying to prove that they are; AT the same time trying to deny that we are. We, they say, are just another cog in the wheel of evolution. Coming from nowhere going to nowhere spinning wheel round and round. ‘We will not have this God to rule over us !’

What we want is Personal Peace Prosperity. Not so much personal peace and prosperity as Personal – I want my way. I want no one to hassle me. I want to be able to do and have what I want when I want it.

What most have is phony. And they know it.

What we really want is Life. Purpose, excitement and the freedom to enjoy it.

God promised us just that. No rules. No financial debt. Lots to enjoy. A reason to do it. And a wild ride getting there if you want.

Our own arrogance will never get us where we want to go. The gods do laugh – the Bible even says “God will laugh at their calamity” !

no need to rethink

Phil Woolas said it was now down to the opponents of genetically modified food to prove it was unsafe.

However, on Sunday Mr Woolas went further, saying it was the government's "moral responsibility" to investigate whether genetically modified crops could help provide a solution to hunger in the developing world.

"But government ministers have a responsibility to base policy on science and I do strongly believe that we have a moral responsibility to the developing world to ask the question: can GM crops help?"

One.
Again, is Charles not part of the government ? ? Like who is Phil Woolas ? Some kind of expert on the situation ? ?

Two.
Speaking of moral obligation – Phil and all those who are gung ho to foist GM food on us, what of the moral responsibility to produce food with what we have? Some how it does not seem right to rant about the moral obligation to ‘investigate’ GM food – by planting it all over the world and exploiting the courts to allow big corporations to put a copy right on it – when there are hundreds of thousands of the best acres of land under cities and black top, being used for tobacco, for alcohol, for drugs, for recreation, for political ends, for hundreds of other uses that have nothing to do with a ‘starving world’ !

Phil. Why do you insist that it is perfectly safe to plant GM crops all over the place and give the big corporations patents and copyrights on what they ‘create’ (BAH HUMMMM BUG ! ! ! ! ) when YOU have NO proof whatever that it is indeed safe to do so ? ? ? Since when is it incumbent on the Prince to prove his point and not you to prove yours? Who indeed is the more morally responsible ? ? Here in Canada a guy breaks the law repeatedly and should have been locked up permanently long ago but we ‘honour’ him with a high award … Phil do you really think that you want to be counted with such a one as that ? “WE ARE right it is up to you to come up with the proof to stop us !!” That is moral responsibility ? ? NO it is NOT ! !

“government ministers have a responsibility to base policy on science” And Phil has NO idea what ever how many times ‘science’ has been wrong ! ! No. No. No. Government has a moral obligation to include all areas of human endevour to base their policy on. Government has a moral responsibility to be morally upright ! ! No bribes. No hiding behind what some corporate big wig says – especially when it is his own ‘science’ that is backing up his ‘claims’ ! ! Moral responsibility would be to keep GM severely inside and under the scrutiny of real science AND cross examination by other human endeavors that are part of the food chain. Moral responsibility would be to go after the big corporations where we know that they are way outside moral, ethical, kind, and decent human experience and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law ! Moral responsibility is to take government back from the big corporations and the courts and even the so called law makers and give it back to the people. When I went to school democracy was govt of the people by the people for the people but now it is “he rules who has the most votes – as long as it can be made to look like he got them fairly and equitably”.

Phil, environment minister? That makes him a big enough expert to challenge the Prince ?

" Companies developing genetically modified crops risk creating the biggest environmental disaster "of all time", Prince Charles has warned.

Prince Charles told the newspaper that huge multi-national corporations involved in developing GM foods were conducting a "gigantic experiment with nature and the whole of humanity which has gone seriously wrong".

"If they think this is the way to go, we will end up with millions of small farmers all over the world being driven off their land into unsustainable, unmanageable, degraded and dysfunctional conurbations of unmentionable awfulness," he said.

Relying on "gigantic corporations" for food would end in "absolute disaster", he warned.

Anti-monarchy Campaign group Republic said: "Prince Charles is quickly making his position as heir to the throne untenable with his meddling in politics."

"likely to rankle with the government"
Dr Julian Little, chairman of the Agricultural Biotechnology Council, said he was "disappointed" by the Prince's comments because "they do not seem to be based on any solid evidence". "

So let me get this straight. Prince Charles who soon could be THE HEAD of state - in lots of countries around the world is 'making his position as heir to the throne untenable with his meddling in politics'.

! ! ! ? !

Oh, I got it !
We would much rather have the Big Corporations run our daily lives, than a politician.
For once someone in politics - someone who IS politics, is trying to do / say something about the fact that non elected non political people are running the country for no other reason than profit and power and it is time to put a stop to that.

Good for Prince Charles !

Like I don't know that Charles was NOT elected to his position.
Like I don't know that there are VERY few Honest politicians any where in the world even if they ARE elected ! Democracy is NOT the all in all, end all to all the world's problems.

GM people have NO solid evidence that what they are doing is safe !! To be disappointed about the Prince's comments because they 'are not based on any solid evidence' is like the pot calling the kettle black. Like - - -. Charles has enough evidence of what big Corporations do with public money and public confidence / trust that he knows that he can NOT trust them to have the best intrests of the world in their heart - if indeed they have such a thing ........ !

GM Corporations out to save the world ? ?

once and again

" The extinction of many ancient species may be due to humans rather than climate change, experts say.
For many years, scientists have been arguing about the causes of widespread extinctions of vast numbers of species at the end of the last Ice Age.
The researchers concluded that these species were driven to extinction by hunting.
"It is sad to know that our ancestors played such a major role in the extinction of these species - and sadder still when we consider that this trend continues today," he said. "

Who was that who said - the scientist struggles and sweats and almost gives up but finaly gets to the top of the last cliff at the top of the mountain and pulls himself over the edge and while he is laying there gasping for breath he sees

a priest who has been sitting there ...

Don't know about the hunting part of it but religion has been saying for some time now that a whole lot of the troubles of the world is the fault of people, including the disappearance of lots of animals.

Ungratefull

“ OTTAWA - The RCMP security branch had no reason to spy on the women's movement of the 1970s - and even less cause to keep a file on Rita MacNeil, the Cape Breton singer said Tuesday.
MacNeil, 64, says she was flabbergasted to learn about the dossier, which was uncovered by academic researchers. "I find it kind of bizarre, given what we were doing,"
The documents show the Mounties recognized feminists were out to "stop so-called exploitation of women," but the force was much more concerned about the possible influence of avowed Communist interests. ”

I suppose that a Canadian is Not concerned about what we have / had here in Canada. Let it all go to pot. What does Rita know or care ……..

Above all DO NOT thank the RCMP for keeping an eye on things for us while we are out to lunch.

Freedom

“ Activists from the California-based Free Gaza Movement are planning to sail from Cyprus to Gaza in defiance of an Israeli blockade of the territory.
About 45 people are in the port of Larnaca in Cyprus, preparing to sail south to Gaza.

"This is a non-violent resistance project to challenge Israel's siege of Gaza. Israel claims that Gaza is no longer occupied, yet Israeli forces control Gaza by land, sea and air".
The organizer’s plan is to enter Gaza from international waters without Israel's authorization, to recognize Palestinian control over its own borders.

“…to show the world the reality of what's going on there.” ”

Please remind me. Gaza is how big ? ? SMALL ! 365 sq km 141 sq miles. I live near a small city of less than a million population, 683 sq km 264 sq miles. Bigger than Toronto which is 630 sq km 243 sq miles or Chicago 606 sq km 234 sq miles. New York is only 789 sq km 305 sq miles, and Mexico City D is 1499 sq km 579 sq miles.

Gaza would be let me seeeeee about 14 by 10 miles. 24 times 2 or 48 miles to travel around it. One morning bicycle ride.

“THE new gun which Germany brought into use for the first time on April 30 (a couple of years ago) against Dunkirk threw its shells from twenty-one to twenty-three miles, establishing a record as the greatest long-range firing ever known in actual warfare.”

That would be about ten miles inside Israel from a boat on the coast of Gaza. No wait, part of Gaza is only 6 km or may be 4 miles wide. Hummmm that would put a shell 16 miles inside Israel. In the vast expanses of North America it could be that we have to cut people a little slack they just do not understand 4 miles wide. Why would any one think that Israel might want to patrol the coast of Gaza ? ?

It is not lost on us that they are harking back to what Israeli people did a few years ago by leaving from Cyprus. Cheap shot ! !

Some one with a rifle could stand on the coast of Gaza and lob bullets across the narrow middle strip into Israel.

Gaza IS free. Free to quit firing rockets into Israel. Gaza is free to recognize that the UN DID recognize the sovereignty of Israel. Gaza is free to start thinking that it just May Be that they are rather dependent on Israel, they get their gas from there, their electricity from there, their jobs from there. Gaza is free to realize that Israel itself is small and is surrounded by countries much bigger with many more people and more arms and more dollars and who have tried in the past to get rid of Israel and are all still waiting for the chance to do so. Gaza is free to recognize that Israel is essentially living in a state of war and they are in the middle of it.

So how many of those people who are griping about Israel have a fence around their back yard ? Why ?
